Novel approaches using 3-dimensional reconstructs: Despite remarkable efforts, metastatic melanoma still presents with significant mortality. In order to improve the increasing requests on new therapeutic alternatives, reliable high throughput screening models are demanded that translate the findings from basic cellular research into clinical applications.

Death ligand TRAIL as an alternative treatment option for malignant melanoma: Malignant melanoma is a highly aggressive cancer with rapidly increasing incidence. The prognosis for patients with metastatic melanoma is particularly poor and mostly is associated with acquired therapy resistance and high relapse rates. Dysregulation of two major mitogen activated pathways (RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK and PI3K-AKT-PTEN) are key drivers of melanoma development and progression, with 50% of patients expressing constitutive active mutants of the MAP-kinase BRAF, and 20-30% expressing mutant NRAS. Despite the recent development of specific MAPK-targeting drugs, like dabrafenib (BRAF inhibitor) and trametinib (MEK inhibitor), melanoma increasingly develop resistance thereby regaining tumorigenic capacity.

Forschungspraktikum Neurowissenschaften (m-w-d) möglich: Der eigenständige Bereich für Psychosoziale Medizin und Entwicklungsneurowissenschaften ist sowohl in Lehre, als auch in Forschung und Patientenversorgung tätig. So gewährleisten wir die Ausbildung von Studierenden im Fach Medizinische Psychologie und Medizinische Soziologie am Universitätsklinikum und forschen sowohl im Bereich der Neurowissenschaften als auch an Themen im Zusammenhang mit dem Erleben und Verhalten des Menschen im Kontext von Krankheit und Gesundheit. Überdies bieten wir für Patient*innen in zahlreichen Kliniken psychologische Beratung und Diagnostik an.
