Prostate Cancer Center / Uro-Oncology Center at NCT/UCC Dresden

The optimal treatment of cancer patients requires the highest medical and nursing quality, as well as constant updating and adaptation of therapy to the latest standards and research findings.

The Prostate Cancer Center is part of the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT/UCC) and has been certified since March 2014 according to the requirements of the German Cancer Society (DKG) and DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. Since May 2021, we have also been certified as a Uro-Oncology Center, into which the Prostate Cancer Center is now integrated. The Uro-Oncology Center also includes the kidney module with the corresponding oncological diseases and in the future the bladder module.

The Uro-Oncology Center ensures the implementation of uniform quality standards for the diagnosis and treatment of uro-oncological tumors. These diseases are treated surgically and/or systemically in large numbers every year at the Department of Urology.

For patients at the Uro-Oncology Center, especially those with advanced or complex diseases, an individualized treatment plan is developed based on the latest findings within the Departments of Urology (surgical treatment), Oncology, Radiology and radiation therapy. Each cancer patient is discussed in tumor conferences held twice weekly with all of the aforementioned disciplines, and the best possible treatment is offered. The patient's needs and wishes are taken into account. For many patients, complete surgical removal of the tumors is now possible, often using minimally invasive surgical techniques, resulting in a faster recovery.

Outpatient care for patients is provided through specialized consultations at the Urology Outpatient Clinic or in the NCT/UCC building.

The basis for an accurate diagnosis and successful, targeted treatment is the pooling of expertise of all participating departments. At the National Center for Tumor Diseases at the University Cancer Center (NCT/UCC), all participating disciplines – urologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and psycho-oncologists – work together to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient.

European Prostate Cancer Centers of Excellence (EPCCE)

The European Society of Urology (EAU) has set itself the task of recognizing Prostate Cancer Centers across Europe that cover all aspects of prostate cancer diagnostics and treatment to a high degree and with above-average quality. These European Prostate Cancer Centers of Excellence, or EPCCEs for short, are expected to demonstrate not only high-quality clinical care but also a corresponding reputation in the fields of research and training.

We are pleased to announce that we have fully met all required criteria and are one of the few centers in Europe to be certified as an EPCCE by the EAU. This award is initially valid for five years.
