Kidney tumors

Today, kidney tumors are mainly detected incidentally. If tumor dignity is unclear on imaging, surgical resection is recommended. Beside oncological safety, the main goal is to spare as much tissue as possible and thus preserve the function of the remaining kidney. In addition to the standard surgical approach via flank incision, we offer robotic-assisted renal tumor resection as a minimally invasive option (link).

If surgical treatment of the tumor is not possible due to comorbidities, we offer radiofrequency ablation in collaboration with our Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (link).

For singular distant metastases, surgical resection may be considered (link).

In the case of extensive metastatic disease, a cure is usually no longer possible. Nevertheless, modern drugs can lead to inactivation of cancer cells and thus stabilization of the disease and preservation of quality of life (link).

Since patients with advanced or metastatic diseases demonstrate complex clinical scenarios, these patients are presented in our multidisciplinary tumor boards where the best possible diagnostics and therapy are discussed by a panel of experts. A multidisciplinary recommendation is then made tailored individually for every patient (link).

In addition, we offer the opportunity to eligible patients be assessed for our variety of clinical trials (link).
