Kidney Transplantation

Kidney transplantation The Clinic and Polyclinic for Urology and the Department of Nephrology of the Medical Clinic III work closely together to form the Center for postmortem kidney transplants and living kidney donations. In close cooperation with the Clinic for Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, we carry out simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplants.

Postmortem kidney transplants have been carried out in the Transplantation Center of the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital since 1995. Living kidney donations have also been carried out since 1997. Pancreas-kidney transplants have been established since 2008.

The Dresden Center is the largest transplant center for kidney transplants in the "Eastern Region" of the German Foundation for Organ Transplantation (Link). Together with the Department of Nephrology of the Medical Clinic III (Link), we prepare patients for kidney transplants and living kidney donations, including from donors with different blood groups (so-called AB0-incompatible donations), in our kidney transplant consultation (Link). Our transplant secretariat (link) maintains the patient waiting list and coordinates aftercare in close coordination with colleagues in nephrology and the local urologists and nephrologists.

Our urological team also participates in the organ donation service for organ removal of the German Foundation for Organ Transplantation (DSO) in Saxony.
