Benigne prostate syndrome
As people get older, the prostate gland can enlarge and obstruct the flow of urine from the bladder. Affected men suffer from various symptoms of urine retention and urination. Mild symptoms can be treated with medication. In the case of severe symptoms or complications such as residual urineformation or urinary retention, surgical treatment may be necessary. In order to find out whether the prostate is the cause of the problems with urine retention or urination, a detailed medical history and symptoms are necessary. Various special urological examinations help the doctor to confirm the diagnosis. To clarify whether treatment is necessary, you can come to our interdisciplinary consultation (link) or to the consultation for self-payers and privately insured patients (link).
If surgical treatment is necessary, we offer different surgical procedures. This depends on the size of the prostate on the one hand, and on the patient's concomitant diseases on the other. The standard procedure is to remove the prostate through the urethra. Alternatively, it is also possible to vaporize or enucleate the excess prostate tissue with a laser (link). In the case of very large prostate glands, it is possible to remove the prostate tissue using minimally invasive robotic surgery (link).
In collaboration with the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, we offer the option of embolizing the blood flow to the prostate upon special patient request and in patients with severe concurrent diseases. You are welcome to come to our interdisciplinary consultation for this (link).
