Translational Research in Oncology

Laboratory and clinical research follows Medical Faculty's profile line "Diagnosis and Therapy of Malignant Disease" and is focused on the following key research programs:

  • Radiation Oncology and Imaging
  • Stem Cell based Therapy and Research
  • Molecular Biomarkers, Cancer Genetics and Functional Genomics
  • Immunotherapy and Cancer Immunology
  • Metastasis Program
  • Tumor site specific Research

In addition to individual research grants, the research activities are embedded in network- and program grants such as the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK), SFB 655 "Cells into tissues" and the DFG research center and cluster of excellence for regenerative therapies Dresden (CRTD). These research projects jointly performed with groups from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), the Helmholtz Research Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and other research institutions. The OncoRay National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology is a transdisciplinary research platform run by clinical and experimental groups working at the medical campus, TU Dresden and HZDR. In 2010 Prof. Frank Buchholz was appointed as a professor for Systems Biology and represents the Forum of Translational Research which promotes synergistic interactions between the research groups and stimulates novel multidisciplinary projects encouraged by bi-annual discussion platforms of different research topics.
