Director Research & Teaching
Dear visitors, welcome!
This website provides you with information on our diverse research and teaching activities at the Faculty of Medicine and the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital of the TUD Dresden University of Technology.
The mission of research at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is to decipher the causes of mental illness and the conditions under which they arise and are maintained, and to improve the course of illness through prevention, early diagnosis and early intervention. Existing therapies are to be optimized and new treatment options for mental illnesses developed, which are to be tailored more precisely to the individual affected person.
Our portfolio of research projects and programs is translational and ranges from the investigation of genetic molecules to psychiatric care studies. The majority of researchers involved come from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, although the diversity of projects also includes scientists from other departments of the University Hospital Dresden, TU Dresden, other German university hospitals and from around the world. The research work is supported by our various research groups and laboratories, which provide assistance to our researchers in the fields of neuroimaging, behavioral neuroscience, biostatistics and biomarker analysis. This research is mainly funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – German research foundation), German federal ministries, the European Union, the Free State of Saxony and private foundations.
In the area of teaching, the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is responsible for university education in the clinical specialty of psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as for medical biology. We support the training of clinician scientists and medical scientists in our research areas through our national (CRC/TRR 393) and international (IRTG 2773/1) structured doctoral programs in close cooperation with the Dresden School of Clinical Science (DSCS) of our faculty and the Graduate Academy of the TU Dresden.
I hope you enjoy browsing and finding out more about our research and teaching programs.
