The Mueller-Planitz group at the Technische Universität Dresden is looking for an ambitious and highly motivated

Postdoc or PhD student (f/m/x) 

to study protein-DNA phase separation and the structural mechanism of chromatin enzymes

The position is initially for two years, starting January 1st, 2022.

Our laboratory investigates mechanisms and functions of chromatin enzymes and their phase separation behavior in vitro and in vivo. We combine protein biochemistry, biophysics, structural approaches, mass spectrometry, and genomics. The group is located at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry (chair Prof. Jessberger) of the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus. The Institute offers an international work environment, excellent research infrastructure, and is part of a vibrant biomedicine campus.

In the project, we will visualize conformational changes of protein machines that work in the cell’s nucleus. We will use fluorescence and kinetic techniques, cryo-EM and cutting-edge mass spectrometry. Selected reading: PMID 24008565, 29395785, 28109157. Besides research, the position offers teaching opportunities. The teaching language is German.

Your Profile:

  • You are a great team worker, and you can communicate your science effectively in English and teach in German
  • You have gained strong experience in protein biochemistry, structural and biophysical techniques
  • You can work independently and diligently and enjoy making discoveries
  • Prior teaching experience is a plus
