PhD Student (f/m/x)

The Dept. of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Dresden is one of the leading surgical departements for cancer treatment in Europe. Implemented within the department is the Surgical Research Lab, which links molecular science with patient oriented research. The lab is part of several research initiatives joining oncological and stem cell labs on the Dresden University Campus, nationwide  and internationally, including the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) Dresden, the NCT Dresden and Heidelberg.

The Surgical Research Lab offers within the group of Christoph Kahlert a position as

PhD Student (f/m/x)

The contract is limited to 36 months starting from as soon as possible.

The group headed by Christoph Kahlert concentrates on the function and clinical application of extracellular vesicles and exosomes. We are specifically interested in the exosome-mediated crosstalk between the tumor microenvironment and gastro-intestinal cancers. We use state of the art technologies, mouse models and human material in connection with genetic manipulation using CRISPR/Cas. Furthermore, we use patient-derived blood and tumor samples to investigate the biology behind therapy response and resistance patterns in patients with colorectal and pancreatic cancer. A "must read" before applying: Pubmed ID 26106858, 24398677, 23519402 and 27070705

  • strong background in cell biology/molecular biology
  • interest in advanced cell culture methods and molecular engineering
  • interest in clinical related science

We offer:

  • Within our group you have the possibility to further expand your skills in molecular biology, specifically in isolating exosomes and extracellular vesicles from, establishing organoid cultures (in collaboration with PD Dr. Stange).
  • We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a strong passion for science and interested to work in a dynamic team.
