Medical scientist as research group leader in precision oncology (f/m/x)

The Faculty of Medicine at the Technische Universität Dresden, one of the 11 German Universities of Excellence, is strengthening translational research and career development strategies for clinician and medical scientists in precision oncology. The Mildred-Scheel-Nachwuchszentrum (MSNZ) “Personalized career development in precision oncology: P2” funded by the German Cancer Aid, is expanding its research groups.

At the next possible Point of time we would like to recruit a

Medical scientist as research group leader in precision oncology (f/m/x)

The aim of the program is to offer a long-term perspective to successful candidates at the Faculty of Medicine and/or clinical departments involved in the program. The selected group leader should establish her/his own independent research group focused on an innovative topic in precision oncology.

Your Profile:

  • We expect candidates to develop a competitive, independent research program, establish local collaborations and integrate into the clinical research.
  • Eligible to apply are postdoctoral researchers aiming to establish their first independent group.
  • Applicants should hold a doctoral degree, have a proven record of exceptional research and expertise in a field related to precision oncology.
  • Applications from abroad are explicitly welcome.

We offer:

  • The program initially funds 3 years of the own position and a competitive package for an independent research group with the option for prolongation.
  • A mentorship program (clinical and scientific mentor) and scientific support
  • Close collaborations with the National Center for Tumor diseases/ University Cancer Center (NCT/UCC) in clinical studies and molecular stratification programs are possible.
  • The MSNZ holds annual retreats and symposiums, trainings in scientific skills, close networking with the scientists on campus and integration into existing research institutes.
  • The Technische Universität Dresden and the Faculty of Medicine are committed to the concept of a family friendly university, including childcare and dual career opportunities.
  • A Position according to the TV-L conditions (at least E14-TV-L; 100%)

The MSNZ wants to foster close collaborations between clinician (MD) and medical scientists (PhD). Joint applications by a collaborative team (“Tandem”) at the intersection of clinic and laboratory are explicitly encouraged.

Applications can be submitted online as a single pdf document and should include an up to date CV (including training, positions, peer-reviewed publications and articles at preprint servers, talks at conferences, awarded grants and stipends, contact information of two references) and a research plan for the funding period including a budget plan (max. 3 pages).
