Genotype-steroidogenic phenotype relationships in patients with aldosteronomas and in experimental cell model systems

Patients with primary aldosteronism have excess aldosterone secretion due to unilateral (usually adenoma) or bilateral adrenal disease (usually hyperplasia). The differential pathophysiology of these subtypes is unknown. This study will examine the relationships between genotype and phenotype (stereoidogenesis) in patients with primary aldosteronism and in experimental cell models. This may contribute to development of simpler methods to assess subtypes of primary aldosteronism than the current method of adrenal venous sampling.
