Infrastructure
Dresden has developed a strong research environment benefiting from a close link of the Carl Gustav Carus University hospital with theMedical Facultyand the Max-Planck Institutes. This has resulted in the successful implementation of a DFG Excellence Cluster for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD), a centre grant (SFB 655) “From Cells into Tissue” a comprehensive cancer centre (UCC) supported by the state of Saxony. Furthermore, Dresden is a member of the newly established Gesundheitszentren in the field of cancer, diabetes and neurodegeneration.
The excellence of the research environment at Dresden therefore provides an ideal basis for this research group. The faculty has given a clear commitment to support translational research with a focus on endocrinology and diabetes. The unique interdisciplinary expertise assembled in this research group provides ideal conditions to achieve major progress in elucidating the mechanisms of adrenal-related diseases. The majority of the scientists participating in the CRU (12/13) are located in Dresden, and the unit is strengthened by the expertise of an outside partner, Prof. Zacharowski (Goethe University hospital Frankfurt).
