ZIMMER BIOMET Visiting fellowship 2017

The Carl Gustav Carus University Medicine in Dresden, Uni-versity Center of Orthopaedics and Traumatology is offering a visiting fellowship for 4 young surgeons of Baltic states each year. This Scholarship is made available thanks to a Grant from Zimmer Biomet for a Maximum value of € 6.150 de-signed to cover travel costs, living expenses and training material for each selected candidate.

Residents and Fellows are trained in the management of major joint surgeries, mainly Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and shoulder arthroplasty as well as joint pre-serving techniques. The Fellow will assist in surgeries, he will attend lectures, assist in outpatient sessions, partic-ipate in clinical research work, he will participate in case-report conferences and X-ray-review sessions. The dura-tion of this fellowship will be two months.

The Candidate’s profile:

  • Age 30-45
  • Language proficiencies in English or German
  • no special surgical skills necessary
  • being at least in his 4th year of specialization in orthopaedics and traumatology

The overall Educational Objectives of this educational op-portunity for the surgeon will be:

  • Completion of knowledge to define indications as well as principles of surgical treatment according to the pathologies affecting hip/knee and shoulder (including rehabilitation)
  • Ability to describe the surgical steps needed to carry out hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgeries as well as joint preserving surgery
  • Depending on the basic knowledge of the fellow he will be trained in practical skills to execute planning and surgical assistance in joint preserving as well as joint replacement procedures
  • Improvement of knowledge in executing clinical re-search studies
