Study-related positions for psychology thesis (B. Sc., M. Sc.)

The main focus of the research group "Cognitive Neurophysiology" (head: Prof. Dr. Christian Beste) at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and the Institute of Psychology at the TU Dresden is the investigation of neurophysiological processes underlying higher-level cognitive functions in healthy people and neuropsychiatric diseases.

For the next possible point of start, we are looking for psychology students to join the ongoing research project “Hyperfunctioning and -binding of procedural memory processes in Tourette syndrome”

 Possible thesis topics are:

  • The development of statistical and rule-based learning in adolescent years.
Unlike most cognitive functions, these aspects of implicit learning do not follow an inverted U-shape but show a dramatic decline around the age of twelve. Here we aim to replicate previous behavioural findings and investigate the possible neurophysiological background of this phenomenon.
  • How does implicit learning drive plasticity in this age group?
We measure the changes in the resting state networks before and after the learning session.
  • Competition between implicit and explicit processes: the interrelation between implicit anticipations, learning performance, and conscious knowledge of the task's structure.

Previous experience with EEG methods is not required.

We are looking forward to receiving your application documents (CV, letter of motivation, academic certificates if present), which you should send by e-mail: . Please contact Adam Takacs, for further details.
