SARS CoV2              


During the ongoing pandemic we started to work on basic science as well as epidemiological questions regarding infection biology of SARS-CoV2. In one project we address early immunostimulation upon infection of airway epithelial cells or blood immune cells with the virus. We want to analyze how the virus is sensed and why in some cases inappropriate immune responses, associated with more severe courses, develop. In epidemiological projects we study infections in childcare and school environment. Moreover, we run a sequencing project that analyzes phylogeny and distribution of SARS-CoV2 with a focus on the Saxony and that especially concentrates on German-Czech-Poland cross border distribution. Work is accompanied by a surveillance project in wastewater. Data are reported to political decision makers. Further work is on development of rapid and easy detection assays using nucleic acid amplification together with partners from the Technical University.
