Dresden Researchers present new system for middle ear diagnostics

In a recently published article researchers from  Clinical Sensoring and Monitoring and ERCD present a new System for endoscopic Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for the examination of the human middle ear. The system utilizes an infrared laser for a high-resolution 3D-imaging and a functional measurement of the vibration behaviour of the entire tympanic membrane at a short examination time of just 8 seconds.

The authors Lars Kirsten, Martin Schindler and Joseph Morgenstern are members of the Junior Research Group „Optical Technologies in Medicine“ (OpTiM), which is funded by the European Social Fund and the Free State of Saxony.

The article „Endoscopic optical coherence tomography with wide field-of-view for the morphological and functional assessment of the human tympanic membrane“ is published as open-access in the Journal of Biomedical Optics and can be downloaded at https://doi.org/10.1117/1.JBO.24.3.031017.
