Project 8

Regulation of inflammation-related adrenal dysfunction by leukocyte-endothelial interactions

In this project, another component of the innate immunity, the leukocyte recruitment cascade will be analysed in the course of adrenal hypofunction during inflammation and endotoxemia. This project will clarify the role of endothelial dysfunction mediated by leukocyte-endothelial interactions for inflammation-related adrenal hypofunction. A particular emphasis will be laid on the recently identified first endogenous inhibitor of the leukocyte recruitment cascade, Del-1. These studies will pave the way for identification of Del-1 and markers of endothelial dysfunction as potential novel biomarkers of adrenal insufficiency in sepsis.
